Ask a SIRC Librarian

Français

Become a SIRC Member and have access to our sport librarians.  SIRC librarians are unique in that they integrate a genuine love of sport with their knowledge of library practice. On a daily basis we see the latest information and trends in the field. Having worked with colleagues in the sport administration community, coaches, students and researchers alike, we have gained a strong understanding of the different perspectives and requirements for sport information.

Meet SIRC's sport librarians:

Nancy Rebel

Director of Library Services

Nancy is the Director of Library Services at SIRC Sport Research and has been involved in sport her whole life. Nancy’s passion is to discover the resources that will help someone to achieve their goal. Connecting the coaches, athletes or administrators with the information that will help them excel inspires her to search the vast repertoire of resources available. Sport is an integral part of Nancy’s life, both at work and at home. From participating in soccer, figure skating, alpine skiing, curling, and softball to coaching youth athletes and introducing her own young children to the fun and excitement of a variety of sports, she sees the vital role that sport plays in life’s successes.

Nancy has a Masters in Library and Information Science and an undergraduate degree in Sociology. She has worked at SIRC for over 10 years undertaking a variety of responsibilities throughout the Library. Having been with SIRC for a long period of time she has had the opportunity to get to know our collection from a variety of perspectives. She has seen the materials come across her desk to analyse and organize them for entry into our collection and database. She determines what is included in our collection and has had the opportunity to work with our International partners as they send us information from their countries to be added to our collection. Her particular areas of knowledge are the winter sports and team sports, however she is familiar with most of sport subjects throughout the library. Her other subject specialties lie in the areas of sociology, psychology, fitness, sports medicine and physical education.

Brandie Adams

Reference Librarian

Brandie is the Reference Librarian at SIRC Sport Research and is involved with information literacy, indexing and research. Her passion is providing information literacy instruction to members of the sporting community. She has held tutorials for local high school and college students, members of the Canadian sport community and visiting African delegates. As an indexer she contributed regularly to the SportDiscus database in the areas of sports medicine, physical therapy, rehabilitation, sport business and outdoor recreation and has a personal interest in curling, yoga, cross country skiing, strength training, spinning and running.

She received her Masters in Library and Information Studies from Dalhousie University, interning at the Sexton Design & Technology library. In her five years at SIRC she has become familiar with the collection through her role in acquisitions, indexing and library resource instruction. Recently, she has been involved in ensuring that teachers, coaches, trainers and sport groups are aware of SIRC resources including assistance from library staff, searching the SIRC collection and accessing the documents.
