Ottawa, ON - April 11, 2002: The Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine (CASM) will use SPORTDiscus and SIRC's full-text service to educate its members in the fields of health promotion and disease prevention. The SPORTDiscus, produced by SIRC, is the world's leading research tool in sport, fitness and sports medicine.

The SPORTDiscus database, with its comprehensive international coverage, is used by universities, hospitals and sporting communities worldwide. The medical component of the database features extensive information in the areas of Rehabilitation, Exercise Therapy, Physical Fitness, Child Healthcare, Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Physical Education and much more.

"SIRC is very pleased to be working in partnership with CASM to advance the profile of sports medicine research" says Debra Gassewitz, President of SIRC.

The agreement will provide CASM's 450 members across Canada with on-line access to practical and advanced level research that might otherwise be difficult to obtain. Members are constantly trying to learn more about their field and this service will facilitate the task of searching and retrieving relevant articles and studies.

The annual forum of The Joint Commission on Sports Medicine and Science was recently held in St. Louis, Missouri. Mr. Rob Gallaher, Director of Marketing and Sales with SIRC is an active member of the Joint Commission. Mr. Gallaher's participation in the forum puts SIRC at the forefront of the issues that will affect the future of sports medicine.
