Press Releases
April 20, 2001:
OTTAWA, CANADA - As part of the SIRCUIT
2001 World Tour, SIRC has stopped in Lausanne, Switzerland
to attend and present at the 11th IASI (International Association
for Sports Information) World Congress. Lausanne boasts
the headquarters of the IOC, the Olympic Museum and 12 International
Sports Federations; a perfect location to host a conference
for those involved in sports information and documentation.
Organized by the IOC, the global forum is
addressing issues such as Sports Information Management,
New Technology in Sports Information and Geographic Development
of Sports Information. One of the main objectives of the
conference is to facilitate scientific & technical exchanges
related to sports information between countries, institutions
and individuals.
Jean-Michel Johnson, Director of Indexing
Services at SIRC is presenting two papers at this conference.
The first paper, entitled "Content Development and
Management: Challenges and Opportunities" presents
different aspects of the ongoing development of SIRC's SPORTDiscus
database (complete
paper available in PDF). The second, entitled "Home
Delivery: Supplying up to date information to thousands
of coaches and sport professionals" focuses on SIRCUIT,
SIRC's communication service to coaches, athletes and sport
professionals (complete
paper available in PDF).
This represents an excellent opportunity to
share information on such topics as the history and content
of the database, selection criteria, indexing guidelines,
international scope, and the SIRCUIT product. In so doing,
SIRC will have a hand in developing international co-operation
and understanding between information professionals and
users of the worldwide network of information related to
sport, physical activity and Olympism.
