Press Releases
Ottawa, July 25, 2002: The size of
the SPORTDiscus grew today with the addition of the Grosse
Adapted Aquatics Database. Susan J. Grosse of Aquatic Consulting
and Education Resource Services, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin
USA, donated over 600 qualified references and years of
research in adapted aquatics. This new addition to the SPORTDiscus
complements SIRC's own growing collection of information
in sport for the disabled or adapted sport.
"It is such a pleasure to know that the
database now has a home in an internationally recognized
source of sport information," says Susan Grosse, creator
of the database.
The Grosse Adapted Aquatics Database captures
the evolution of available material in this area of study.
The bibliography list began with a focus in aquatic rehabilitation
following World War II. Today the content reflects the growth
in literature in this field and includes information in
small craft, scuba, competitive swimming, water skiing,
water polo, equipment safety, Special Olympics, Paralympics,
perceptual motor learning and more.
"The Grosse Database enhances SIRC's
existing coverage of adapted sport. SIRC is very pleased
that Ms Grosse will continue to contribute information regularly
to SIRC's database as it will strengthen the focus of adapted
aquatics within the SPORTDiscus" - Linda Wheeler, Director
of Product Development, SIRC.
The SPORTDiscus houses thousands of references
in sport and health and disabilities, such as adapted physical
education, grassroots sports for the physically disabled,
therapeutic treatment of cerebral palsy, playground accessibility
for the disabled, adaptations following spinal cord injury,
strength training for physical rehabilitation and more.
The integration of the Grosse Database of Adapted Aquatics
into the SPORTDiscus demontrates SIRC's commitment to retrieving
and indexing information in this field.
