SIRC and CCAA congratulate award winners!
(Cornwall, Ont. – April 5, 2006) The Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) and SIRC (Sport Information Resource Centre) are pleased to announce this year’s SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian Award recipients.
The SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian Award is the CCAA’s most prestigious student-athlete award, epitomizing their mandate of recognizing excellence in academics and athletics. To achieve this honour, a student-athlete must be named to his/her respective PCAA All-Star teams (1st and 2nd) in a CCAA Sport, and must achieve a GPA standing of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent as defined by his/her institution.
“To achieve excellence in both sport and academics requires tremendous skill, dedication and perseverance. SIRC is honoured to recognize those outstanding college athletes who are also passionate about excelling in their education,” expressed Debra Gassewitz, President and CEO, SIRC.
2006 marks the second year in which SIRC and the CCAA will present the SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian Recognition Award. This award is given annually to the institution with the most student-athlete award recipients. With a total of 8 award recipients, Grande Prairie Regional College will be presented the prestigious award at their annual Festival of Gold on Thursday, April 13th at the Quality Hotel & Conference Centre.
“Both SIRC and the CCAA are dedicated to fostering a complementary relationship between intercollegiate athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence,” expressed Sandra Murray-MacDonell. “Having 108 student-athletes earn the SIRC-CCAA Academic All Canadian Award reaffirms the CCAA’s high standard of achieving excellence in both the classroom and on the playing field.”
