SIRCUIT 2001 - Launch

January 24th, 2001 marked the launch of SIRCUIT 2001: the World Tour. The event was hosted in Ottawa at the new SIRC offices. It was a great opportunity for SIRC to highlight the Tour, as well as share details on our current successes with our sports database the SPORTDiscus and our exciting 2001 product line.

Many prominent figures within the sporting community, the hi-tech sector as well as dignitaries from international embassies such as South Africa, Ireland, Germany, US, Italy, France and Greece took in the launch of the World Tour. The following are but a few who attended the occasion as leaders and representatives of their respective circles: David Belgrove - British High Commission, Mark Ward - Australian High Commission, Marguerite Dove - US Embassy, Thomas Schmidt - Embassy of Germany, Guisi Zara - Embassy of Italy, Leslie Lees - Silverplatter, Serge Amyot - Francophonie Games, Joel Rabideau - Alcatel, Mark Paterson - Photonic Sports, Claire Buffone - Ethics in Sport, Kathleen Luten - Parks and Rec.Canada, Frank Verschuren - Canadian Tourism Assoc., Ted Wagstaff - Can.Sport Awards Group, Dr. Joseph Lawrence - Ontario Chiropractic Assoc.

The number of guests in attendance confirmed the worldwide interest on accessing information about coaching, training, sport sciences, physical education programs, general fitness and more. Those present were given a guided tour through the offices and met with staff who were eager to discuss the SIRCUIT 2001 - World Tour and offer insights to the SPORTDiscus. Marguerite Dove, representative of the US Embassy said "I loved being able to sit down with the staff and be taken through the various possible searches". Jocelyne Koepke from the CCTC claimed SIRC to be the "leader in the field of information delivery. What SIRC has achieved is what the rest are striving for". "Sircuit 2001 was a very pleasant discovery for me" says Pierre Benson, Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation, "It represents an additional resource at our fingertips, something we did not know existed. SIRC, the world's leading bibliographic database producer of sport, fitness and sports medicine information is probably the best kept secret in town".
